No to development of our farmland! ... See MoreSee Less

Picket Developers Rezone Info Day

April 6, 2016, 3:00pm - April 6, 2016, 6:00pm

The Rapicorp developer is having an open day to announce its plans to rezone and subdivide unique and high potential agricultural land in the Philippi Horticultural Area. The Campaign will be picketing the developer’s “Open Day”. The PHA Food & Farming Campaign was established to protect the PHA from the threat of housing developments that will delete one third of the PHA. The city has given the Rapicorp developer permission to rezone the agriculture land into housing – without any Environmental Impact Assessment being approved. This is in violation of national legislation and a blatant violation of our rights as the community affected. We want to counter the narrative that this is housing for those in need – whereas this is gated housing; and that this is “economic development” – when actually it will delete 4,000 farmworkers jobs, send the price of vegetables skyrocketing and destroy the Cape Flats Aquifer. This “economic development” will also see rates in Mitchell’s Plain and Strandfontein spiral, cause extreme flooding in winters, and add hours commute to work and back on a daily basis. The PHA campaign firmly believes that the farmland is for growing food, and that people should be housed in the city. There are 10,000 hectares of land identified in the city, for development. The governors as custodians of the city, are obliged to manage the assets of the city in the interests of every citizen, and not to the benefit of a couple of developers who stand to make billions. For more information or to join the picket, please inbox Nazeer Sonday, spokesperson of the campaign

I work on the banks of the Liesbeeck in Rondebosch, for the second time in a week I looked at the river this morning and it was clear. An hour or three later it was milky and obviously somebody is dumping something. Is there a number that one can dial, that will respond quickly to find the culprits? ... See MoreSee Less

Organic Moringa Seeds for Sale: R15 for 8 seeds
Moringa seeds are rich in the vitamins A and C and the mineral iron. Vitamin A is important for eye health and night vision, healthy skin, hair and nails and cell growth. Vitamin C is an important antioxidant that protects you from the damaging effects of free radicals. It is also important in wound healing, immune function and collagen synthesis. Iron is an important component of red blood cells and a low intake causes iron-deficiency anemia. Vegetarians and women tend to be particularly at risk of iron deficiency.
